Ah… condiments. One of the adjustments to going Paleo is that you can’t just ingest anything off the shelf anymore. If you look at the ingredient list on your bottle of Heinz ketchup, you will notice scary things like food coloring, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, wheat. Even the organic, all-natural brands will use sweeteners that are not Paleo-friendly (cane sugar). There is good news, though. Homemade Paleo ketchup is not hard to make at all. I will be exploring some more in-depth and rich ketchup recipes in the coming weeks but here is a really quick and easy one that you can have in a matter of minutes.
All you need is tomato paste, vinegar or lemon juice and a collection of spices found in many a home kitchen.
Paleo Ketchup Ingredients:
- 1 can (12 oz) tomato paste
- 4 TBSP vinegar or lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- Pinch of allspice
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
Paleo Ketchup Directions:
- Put all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk to combine
- Refrigerate in a sealed container and enjoy
this sounds great! I can’t wait to try it? How long will this keep?
It will keep up to three weeks! This recipe yields around 2.5 -> 3 cups.
Enjoy!
This was great, fast & easy thank u!
Thank you! Fast and easy is very popular in this house with a demanding toddler.
Does the Cayenne Pepper make it a little spicy or does it just add flavor?
Cayenne pepper will give it a little bit of bite but won’t be very noticeable as long as you aren’t too generous
